Recycling

Sierra Club is suing ExxonMobil

The oil and gas giant ExxonMobil is also the world's largest producer of polymers used to make single-use plastics. The Sierra Club’s new and unprecedented lawsuit with California's attorney general seeks to hold the company accountable for a decades-long campaign of deception about plastic pollution and recycling. From attempts to shift the responsibility for pollution onto consumers to outright lies about how much plastic is recycled (or recyclable), it is time for the petrochemical producers that have poisoned our lands, oceans, food, and bodies with plastic pollution to pay a price.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's definition of  Recycling:
"Recycling is the recovery of useful materials, such as paper, glass, plastic, and metals, from the trash to use to make new products, reducing the amount of virgin raw materials needed."

Recycling also saves on energy needed to process raw materials, especially aluminum.

This page also covers the separate processing of any waste that happens to be hazardous. Examples include solvents, paint, pesticides and batteries. Electronics fall into both groups because they contain both gold and lead. You can also follow this link for a guide on recycling for the different Long Island towns.
